Editing is Your Friend; Getting to the Meat of It All - a poetry workshop

all times in Pacific
all labs on Zoom

Let’s talk editing! Do you struggle to edit your own work? Do you find it a scary concept or a laborious practice?

We edit all the time! When we journal, write a letter, compose an email or text, and even when we talk, we edit. We might not realize we’re doing it, because it comes so naturally. Maybe we left something out or try different words to get our point across—we continue to edit ourselves to make the biggest impact on our listeners and readers.

In poetry, there are often fewer words on the page than in prose, and so the words we choose really matter and must count. Editing comes down to getting to the heart of the matter. Each line, each word, we choose should hold its own weight.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss the technique of editing, practice editing through several creative writing prompts, then share and discuss our work.

** Attendees need not be poets to benefit from the learning and practicing of editing. **

led by Pamela "Jaz" Banks
